Today Jake had his 15 month checkup, and it was interesting, as usual. We saw a new doctor, Dr. Ramadan, and Mr. Antsy Pants adores her - the minute she walked in the room he sat so still, just watching her drooling. She found a few things which surprised me. Jake went from the 50% to the 35% in his weight. This could be due to a few things - he''s still teething; he has swollen gums in the back, so the molars are rearing their ugly heads. He''s had this cold for almost 5 weeks now, and just hasn''t wanted to eat. Plus he runs around like a crazy fool, burning tons of calories I''m sure. And last but not least, he''s learning to be a picky eater, and refusing many foods. Oh the fun of toddlers! So with this drastic change in weight comes a weight check doctors visit in 6 weeks, to see if he is progressing at the same pace, or losing more weight. If he is losing more weight, they''ll check him for celiac.
She also discovered a heart murmur, which she listened to quite intently. However, she said it is what is called a Venous Hum, which goes away when he turns his head. In research I discovered that this is a very benign form of murmur, which is good.
Jake just sat and stared the whole time she checked him out. While she was looking in his ears, he just sat so still, you''d think he was this patient, calm little boy! She laughed at how ''calm'' he was, and I think he was just in love with her. He was even drooling on the stethoscope when she was listening to his heart. He reminded me of someone getting pampered at the spa. We''ll definitely be seeing this doctor again!
